The Reynolds Forty Six carbon clincher rim is completely redesigned for 2011 and offers the same performance as the Forty Six tubular rim, but in Reynolds' all carbon clincher design. Reynolds Forty Six 46mm deep race rims have new carbon fiber materials and resin systems, new aerodynamic profiles and improved braking technology.
The Forty Six has outstanding lateral stiffness, strength and performance. The rim is designed and built to withstand use and abuse while improving flat-out speed, increasing lateral stiffness and strength for confident handling in any situation
Reynolds' CTg (cryo + glass transition point) brake track is a patented, temperature-conductive resin for the brake track, molded in a protective fabric containment layer that actually removes heat from the rim. Reynolds Forty Six rims have been tested to operate up to 100 degrees cooler than other carbon rims, which significantly reduces the potential of heat-induced rim failure for improved durability, smoother, safer and more confident braking.
Reynolds also developed the Swirl Lip Generator, a .9mm "lip" on the leading edge of the rim that widens the rim near the spokes. Its goal is to guide air around the rim and re-attach and minimize pressure drag. It also decreases the side force acting on the rim, smoothing the turbulence and pressure drag on the low-pressure side, which reduces the steering force required to keep the wheel in line with the bike in a crosswind.
