Sapim SILS(Sapim Integrated Locking System) Polyax aluminum nipples have a special thread system to prevent loosening under extreme vibration. A SILS nipple uses a deformed thread as a locking mechanism that does not degrade over time. This design allows wheels to be trued or re-tensioned with minimal hassle.
Aluminum nipples have about one-third the mass of a brass nipple for weight savings at the rim/spoke interface.
Wheelbuilder does not recommend using alloy nipples in wet or salty environments due to their limited corrosion resistance.
